The Electronics Housing Design Project
In our collaborative electronic housing design project with our client, focusing on electronic housing design, on the right, we work with our client to develop innovative, functional and aesthetically pleasing housings for electronic devices. The project involves the full development from conceptual design to final product, including material selection, structural design, thermal management and manufacturing processes. We used advanced CAD software for accurate 3D modeling to ensure that every detail is fully considered and optimized.
Surface Finishing – Polish / Texture
Surface finishing is a critical step that directly affects product appearance and performance. Texturing adds patterned surfaces for both aesthetic and functional purposes, as shown on the yellow surface. Line polishing removes minor machining marks, reduces surface roughness, and improves smoothness, as applied to the green surface.
The Parting Line Design Of Electronics Housing
When designing the electronic housing, our mold designers consider mold opening direction and demolding methods to ensure a clean appearance. Parting lines are placed in hidden or edge areas to avoid visible surfaces and maintain the product’s overall aesthetics. The red lines indicate the parting lines.
The Draft Angle Analysis Of Electronics Housing
In the injection molding process, the draft angle design is critical to ensure smooth demolding. The draft angle is between the mold surface and the vertical direction. Correct design of the draft angle can prevent excessive friction between the finished product and the mold surface during the demolding process, avoiding scratches, deformation, or damage product surface. Picture 1 of the draft angle is ok for part releasing, and picture 2 of the draft angle ok in the core.
Slider & Lifter Design Of Electronics Housing
During electronic housing design, Lifter parting line design is a key aspect. Lifter is used to form complex product and eject the product from the mold when the mold is opened. Reasonable parting line design can effectively reduce the processing difficulty and production cost of the mold, and at the same time improve the quality and appearance of the product.
Sub-Insert Design
In electronic housing design, the core sub-insert is a key component used to form complex or detailed features. This removable insert improves mold flexibility, simplifies maintenance, and extends mold life. The red lines indicate the parting lines of the core insert.
Ejector Design
Ejector design is a critical part of electronic housing molding, ensuring safe, efficient demolding without damaging the product. Based on the part’s geometry, size, material, and demolding difficulty, an appropriate ejection method is selected. For this design, Ø6 ejector pins are used to eject the product reliably.
Gate Type & Location & Size of Electronics Housing
In the electronic housing design, a cold runner system with a banana gate is being used. The gate size is ∅1.2mm, and the blue surface requires an additional 0.2mm of material to accommodate the gate. The cold runner system, known for its cost-effectiveness and simplicity, directs the molten plastic into the mold cavities. The banana gate, a specific type of gate designed to minimize visible marks on the finished product, is strategically placed to ensure optimal flow and reduce potential defects. By adding 0.2mm of material to the blue surface, the gate’s function and efficiency are enhanced, ensuring a smooth injection process and high-quality final product.
The Problem Points of Electronics Housing
Picture 1:
The indicated area is a shut-off surface. A small flat near this area may cause flash. We recommend adjusting the draft angle to eliminate the flat and reduce the risk of flash formation.
Picture 2:
The blue surface is the shut-off between the cavity and core. To improve sealing and demolding performance, we recommend increasing the draft angle to 3°, which helps reduce part damage, mold wear, and surface defects while improving overall molding reliability.
Mold Layout
Reasonable electronic housing design is the basis for achieving high-quality injection molding. By optimizing various aspects such as cavity and core layout, gating system, ejector system, cooling system, parting surface, and venting system, the working efficiency of the mold and the product quality can be improved. The mold layout design needs to take into account the shape, size, material properties, and production requirements, to achieve the best production results.
Packing Delivery
Before delivery, we will fully maintain and clean the molds to make sure the surface of the molds are smooth and internal impurities. Then anti-shock material and protective padding are packed and put into wooden crates and labeled with model and quantity information.
