Mold Inspection Before Trial Molding
- For all molds scheduled for trial molding within 2 days, no rust inhibitor should be sprayed on the entire mold, and no oil should be applied to the forming surfaces and assembly surfaces of the inserts. Oil can trap gas, and rust inhibitor seeping from the inserts can contaminate the finished product.
- All molds must be checked for smooth operation before being handed over to the trial molding department.
- If there are special devices, they must be clearly noted andcommunicated to the trial molding department.
- If the ejector plate has limit switches, the switches must face upward, and the wiring should be connected from the top for convenience.
- If the ejector plate has travel limits, mark them on the mold with a red pen and inform the trial molding department.
- If the mold opening stroke is limited, it must be clearly marked on the mold with a dedicated red pen, and written notice must be provided to the trial molding department.
- All molds must be inspected according to the Mold Inspection Checklistbefore being handed over to the trial molding department. Special attention should be paid to venting and gate polishing.
- If the mold requires interchangeable inserts, the trial molding department must be informed of the replacement method.
- All angled lifters must be 0.05~0.1mm lower than the mold surface to prevent material shearing.
- Check if all side cores have reliable guiding and limit components.
- Check if all side core mechanisms have safety devices to prevent shearing or damaging the mold.
- For molds with hydraulic or pneumatic core pulling, check if all oil or air circuits are smooth and if there are limit switches to ensure accurate opening or closing.
- Verify if the part drawing and mold drawing have special requirements and ensure they have been addressed.
Exterior Inspection Before Trial Molding
- Check if the mold’s opening/closing height, clamping dimensions, ejection method, and opening distance meet the customer’s and injection machine’s requirements.
- The mold exterior should have no protruding or sharp burrs and must be marked with the mold number and part code.
- Check if the lifting ring holes can safely lift the mold onto the injection machine.
- Ensure all accessories and spare parts, such as oil and water pipe connectors, are prepared.
- The mold should have a “TOP” marking indicating the lifting direction.
- Check if the flange and sprue bushing dimensions meet the customer’s requirements and are compatible with the injection machine.
- Inspect the hot nozzle, hot runner plate, and their power sockets.
- Verify the position and size of the ejector pin holes.
Mold Cavity Inspection Before Trial Molding
- Check if ejector pin holes have undercuts and if pin holes and gates are polished smooth.
- Verify if the gate dimensions match the drawing.
- Ensure the venting slots are sufficient.
- Check if the cavity surface roughness meets the customer’s requirements.
- Clean the core and the bottom of all deep ribs thoroughly.
- Use fine sandpaper to round corners where sharp edges are unnecessary; check for undercuts by touch.
- Ensure all sliding components fit properly, with accurate and reliable positioning. The fit of angled guide pins must be secure. For molds operating above 60°C, ensure the gaps between moving parts account for thermal expansion to avoid jamming.
- Test the cooling water for each insert and slider before assembling the entire mold.
- Test the ejector pins before trial molding by lifting the entire ejector plate with a hoist to check if it slides down automatically.
- Inspect the part number inside the mold cavity.
